Layer Configuration Setup

In WOODSOFT, layers are used to define how each part of a component is machined when exported from SketchUp. Each layer corresponds to a specific cutting, milling, or contouring process.

🎯 Layer Naming Convention

Layers in the SketchUp file must begin with either ABF_ or _ABF_.

Layer names should clearly describe their machining purpose, for example:

  • ABF_CUTTING_LINES – Cutting the outer contour of the part

  • ABF_MARK_SQUARE – Edge trimming or roughing

  • ABF_SHEET_BORDER – Outline of the full panel

  • ABF_SHEET_ID – For display only, not used for nesting

🛠️ Layer Parameter Configuration

Field

Brief Description

Processing

Select the machining process: part cutting, slotting, edging…

Tool Number

Choose the tool number as configured

Processing Depth

Depth of cut or groove

Rotation velocity

Rotation speed of the tool (RPM)

Cutting velocity

Feedrate while cutting panel edges

Slow cutting velocity

Slower feedrate for the final edge cut to prevent tear-out

Moving down velocity

Speed at which the tool moves downward into material

Z0, Z1, Z2

Z-axis height configurations for safe moves and cutting depth

Max processing depth

Maximum depth per pass (useful for thick panels, multiple passes)

⚠️ Note: Layers marked as “Not used for nesting” still need to be declared in the configuration. This ensures the software can properly ignore them during cutting file generation.

🧰 Common Machining Types

Tên hiển thị trong phần mềm
Mô tả ngắn gọn

Board border

Outline of the original board

Detail cutting

Cut along the contour of the detail

Internal contour cutting

Cut internal holes/slots within the detail

Edge cutting

Trim the board edges for a clean finish

Sketchup-Milling

Mill surface areas within closed regions

Profile-On milling

Mill along paths, with the tool centered on the drawn line

Profile-On milling (run first)

Run before other milling paths (high priority)

Back detail cutting

Cut details located on the underside of the board

Not used

Layer for display only, not used for cutting/export
